Raised in the retro village of Lake Eyasi, Mody’s upbringing has been far from ordinary. He hails from the respected heritage of the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes, communities that have maintained a symbiotic relationship with the land and its creatures through centuries. These tribes, with their unique cultures and traditions, have been the custodians of the land, living in harmony with nature in its rawest form.
Mody’s upbringing in this vibrant cultural environment taught valuable skills such as survival, understanding ecosystem balance, and living off the land, which is essential for any guide.

Mody’s journey into the world of guiding and conservation is deeply influenced by his roots and the rich heritage of his homeland. From a young age, he led expeditions across Lake Eyasi, embarking on walking safaris that offered an immersive experience into the heart of Tanzania’s wilderness. Communicating in only Swahili and Hadza, the latter being a click language unique to the Bushmen, Mody was able to bridge the gap between the modern world and the ancient wisdom of his people. His tours were not just about sighting wildlife but understanding the intricate connections that bind all living things, narrated in languages that carry the soul of Africa within their sounds.

Right from the start, the communication with Lamai Safari stood out from all the other companies we spoke with. The Hadza tribe is the last hunter-gatherer tribe in Tanzania, and visiting them was an extraordinary experience! As a couple living in Tanzania, we’ve seen many tribal attractions, but this was unique. We arrived early, warmed up by the fire, and learned their fascinating language of sounds and clicks before heading out to hunt with the men. Our guides, Ally and Mody, are Hadza tribe members themselves. Their inspiring stories and deep understanding of their culture made the experience personal and memorable. When you visit Tanzania, we highly recommend not missing this special day!

Tanzania, prachtig land met een heerlijke temperatuur, waar de gastvrijheid een grote rol speelt. Het is zo onwerkelijk maar prachtig om de wilde dieren in hun natuurlijke habitat en in vrijheid te zien. De safari die ik gemaakt heb met Lamai Africa Safaris was grandioos !! Zeer verzorgd qua lodges en met een uitermate professionele chauffeur/gids – Mody. Gezien onze leeftijd werd het tempo door Mody fantastisch gedoseerd en aangepast. Ook heeft Lamai er voor gezorgd dat onze “kamers” niet zo ver van het restaurant af lagen. De luxe airconditioned safari truck was goed bevoorraad en zeer comfortabel. Kortom, zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.
Een geweldige safari met prima lodges. De privesfeer (slechts met 2 pers in de safari truck) was ideaal. Dankjewel Nina, Mody en Ally.

Gedurende 2.5 week hebben wij een meer dan fantastische reis gemaakt door Tanzania. Deze reis was opgezet door de reisorganisatie ‘Lamai Africa Safaris’. Wij zijn uitermate tevreden over deze organisatie. De hele reis klopte van het begin tot het eind. De communicatie was ook zeer goed!

Wat een geweldige vakantie hebben wij gehad. Zo een andere ervaring dan een strand vakantie, zo speciaal om dit te mogen meemaken. Wij hadden gekozen voor een privé safari, dit was heel fijn. We konden zelf bepalen hoe laat, hoe lang en wanneer we op game drive wilde. Het verblijven in de parken vonden wij echt heel bijzonder, dit geeft je de echte wild life ervaring. Je hoort de hyena’s en leeuwen door de nacht heen. De gids, de eigenaresse, maar ook het personeel bij de lodges, waren super vriendelijk en meedenkend. Wij hebben ons in Afrika nog nooit zo veilig gevoeld als in Tanzania.
