Lamai Safari Etiquette – Respecting Nature & Wildlife
Welcome to Lamai! We are privileged to share this incredible landscape with the wildlife that calls it home. As visitors, we believe in treading lightly and respectfully. To ensure a safe and responsible safari experience, we appreciate if our guides and our guests are aware and adhere to follow the following guidelines:
- Respect the wildlife – Please keep a minimum of 7-meter distance from animals and never interfere with their natural behavior.
- Enjoy the moment in peace – No more than five vehicles at a sighting, especially near cheetahs.
- Keep it quiet & calm – Speak softly, avoid shouting between vehicles, and refrain from using the radio to call in sightings.
- Pause & appreciate – Turn off the engine when stopping at a sighting and restart only when moving on.
- Stay inside the vehicle – For your safety and the well-being of the wildlife, always remain inside the vehicle.
- Take only memories, leave only footprints – No littering, and please respect the natural environment.
- Trust your guide & camp crew – Their expertise ensures a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Ethical safaris only – NO SPEEDING, NO OFF ROAD DRIVING, FOLLOW PARK REGULATIONS

The logo Unravelled
The LAMAI logo combines symbols from the Hadza and Datoga tribes. The Hadza and Datoga are two ethnic groups from Tanzania, each with unique cultures and traditions. The Hadza are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer societies in the world, while the Datoga are pastoralists and skilled blacksmiths. Despite their different lifestyles, both tribes coexist and share a common geographical area, which can serve as a
foundation for creating a unified symbol representing both.
- Dots: Datoga Women often have facial
tattoos, which are considered marks of beauty. These tattoos usually consist of tiny dots and lines arranged in patterns on their faces. - Symbolic Bow and Arrows: This particular item is closely linked with the Hadza people, who are well-known for their exceptional hunting abilities using bows and arrows. The inclusion of a bow and arrow not only represents the Hadza’s unique way of living but also symbolizes their self-reliance, accuracy, and reverence for their cultural heritage. The Datoga tribes contribute
to this heritage by crafting the various metal arrowheads used by the Hadza hunters. - Guineafowl feathers: The Hadza tribe’s use of guineafowl feathers on their arrows is a multifaceted practice that reflects their deep connection to their environment, their practical needs for successful hunting, their cultural traditions, and their sustainable way of life. It’s a vivid example of how traditional knowledge and practices, developed over thousands of years, continue to be relevant and effective in the contemporary world.

Hello, my name is Mody, and I am from the Gichero family, born in the beautiful Eyasi Valley. From a young age, I dreamed of becoming a tour guide, inspired by the breathtaking beauty and rich heritage of Tanzania.
My journey began as a local guide at Lake Eyasi, where I worked closely with the Hadza and Datoga tribes for nearly ten years. To further my skills, I attended Mount Meru International Tour Guide School, later joining renowned organizations like Abercrombie & Kent and Asilia Africa, where I spent a combined decade as a driver-guide. These experiences shaped my passion for sharing Tanzania with visitors from around the world.
With the support of Nina, I founded Lamai Africa Safaris, a dream come true. Our mission is simple: to create unforgettable experiences that will leave you in awe of Tanzania’s wonders, without a single regret about your journey with us.
Tanzania is a land of endless adventure, where you can witness the majesty of the Serengeti, the enchanting Ngorongoro Crater, and the rich culture of over 120 tribes. While each tribe has its own language, Swahili is our national language, and I’ll be delighted to teach you a few words during your trip!

As a young girl, I spent countless hours mesmerized by the wildlife documentaries on National Geographic. These glimpses into the vibrant landscapes and incredible animals of Africa sparked a deep curiosity within me. Though life took me in another direction, into a thriving career in shipping and logistics, the dream of Africa never faded. For over 30 years, my passion was navigating the complexities of global trade, but the call of the wild always lingered in the background.
In 2005, I finally fulfilled a lifelong dream by embarking on an almost six-week tour through South Africa. The experience was transformative, reigniting that spark and deepening my connection to the continent. Four years later, Botswana followed, cementing my love for Africa’s breathtaking beauty, rich cultures, and unparalleled wildlife. Yet, life had more plans for me, and it would take another 14 years before I could return.
In 2023, I arrived in Tanzania. From the moment my feet touched the tarmac at Kilimanjaro International Airport, I felt a buzz of excitement and an overwhelming sense of homecoming. Over the course of a month, I traveled through the Northern Circuit, meeting incredible people, learning about their lives, and marveling at the natural wonders of this stunning country. The trip was life-changing, but I knew there was so much more to discover.
On the flight back home, my mind was abuzz with fragments of ideas. How could I combine my love for Africa, my experience in logistics, and my desire to make a meaningful impact? Attending the Tanzania–Netherlands Trade and Investment Forum in 2023 gave me the clarity I needed. Those scattered ideas coalesced into a firm plan: Empowering young Tanzanians with a bright mind and a head full of ideas.
Sprouted from Mody Gichero’s dream, we together founded Lamai Africa Safaris, fulfilling not only my lifelong dream but also Mody’s and that of his younger brothers. Founded with the dual purpose of empowering Tanzanian youth and sharing the wonders of this incredible land with the world, the company is more than a business; it is the culmination of our shared dreams. It allows us to live close to the wildlife we’ve always adored while contributing to the communities that make Tanzania so special.
Reality often pales in comparison to dreams, but Tanzania has been the exception. Its landscapes, people, and wildlife are even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
At Lamai Africa Safaris, we are dedicated to creating transformative experiences for our guests while fostering opportunities for Tanzanian youth. Lamai Africa Safaris was established with a bold purpose: to empower Tanzanian youth to seize opportunities and build brighter futures. In a rapidly growing nation, young people—whether still in school or newly graduated—face steep challenges. Many lack the financial resources to pursue their dreams, while the job market struggles to match the aspirations of the 800,000 students who graduate from higher education and universities each year.
These young graduates are brimming with fresh ideas, energy, and ambition, but too often, they encounter limited job prospects and insufficient means to start their own businesses. At Lamai Africa Safaris, we aim to change this.
Our mission begins with creating meaningful jobs. With the results of our efforts, we will invest in new initiatives that empower even more young people. This is not about short-term fixes or temporary relief. Our focus is on driving lasting, transformative change—laying a foundation for generations to come, rather than addressing the symptoms of a problem without solving its root causes.
We know we cannot reach everyone, but by starting with one, we are already making a difference. Every step forward is a step closer to our vision of a more inclusive and prosperous future for Tanzania’s youth.
